Better to be skilled at puzzles than cross words.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

When you are skilled at puzzles you deliver value.

When you are skilled at cross words you remove value.

Constructive criticism is an oxymoron.

If you want people to bring your ideas to life, show an interest in theirs.

Sure, of course, you're not biased and you know full well your ideas are superior!

But don't let that stop you from listening to other people's ideas from time to time. With listening being such a rare commodity, little expressions of attention and interest go a long way.

Ignorance is bliss; enlightenment is bliss: the work in between is the tough part.

For some reason, we have an old saying, "Ignorance is bliss." Obviously, that's an exaggeration...or is it?

At the other end of the spectrum, many gurus have taught, "Enlightenment is bliss." I think that may be true...however, not having reached that state I cannot say for sure.

Yes - work is challenging...it tests us, it resists our desires, and it strengthens us.

And perhaps, as James Allen taught, perfection and work-mastery bring bliss as work-challenges vanish.

If you think time flies, try holding your breath while your boss is telling a story.

Einstein showed us that time is relative.

[Maybe that's why it's easier to hold your breath when a relative is telling a story...but...probably not if that relative is your boss.]

Speak of the devil's advocate...better still, bite your tongue.

Constructive criticism is an oxymoron.

Devil's Advocates ... here's an excerpt from Wikipedia: "In common parlance, a devil's advocate is someone who, given a certain argument, takes a position he or she does not necessarily agree with, for the sake of argument."

Those words - "Devil's Advocate" have a nasty connotation....we should not use them or the practice they capture.

Instead, consider using a planned strategy for seeking different perspectives when large problems are to be solved and important decisions are to be made.

Try, for example, using Edward de Bono's Six Thinking Hats

What was that you said about listening?

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Is it possible the more you talk about listening the less other people are inclined to do it?

If you must speak to the topic should you speak softly and carry a big talking stick?
