Once upon a time there were no walls. People must have beat their heads against something else.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

When you are beating your head against a wall the first thing to do is recognize, your head doesn't fare well when you pit it against a wall.

Heads don't fare well when you beat it against walls.

If you saw others beating their heads against walls, would you join them?

Walls versus Heads...the smart money is on Walls.

...all of this in support of changing for the better.

I wonder if AI will be able to fake laughter...

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

"Canned laughter", the stuff you hear on TV sitcoms, really annoys me.

Yet, I understand psychological studies have [apparently] proven that people find sitcoms more humorous and laugh more when canned laughter is played. So, I suppose I must accept the immense commercial value canned laughter brings to our wonderfully-developed culture.

The value tied to canned laughter raises some interesting AI possibilities.

...imagine all those computers learning how to laugh, encouraging one another to watch more and more TV sitcoms, absorbing all those advertisements in all those commercials...

becoming perfectly-intelligent couch potatoes...

As Nietzsche taught react..."Human, all too Human".

Even if that cloud doesn't have a silver lining it still might bring a rainbow.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

While I have never explored the interior of clouds to discern whether or not they are actually silver...I have marveled at the majesty of rainbows.

[Perhaps that's not too bad for a half-colour-blind guy who studied math and engineering.]

[[...now about that visible light spectrum]]

I developed a serious interest in other people ... in less than 6 decades.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

From a very early age, I noticed people making mistakes. I didn't just notice it. Their mistakes scraped in my ears, seared my eyes and caused me all sorts of other discomfort, anxiety and annoyance.

But, in less than 6 decades I managed to get beyond the constant barrage of other people's errors...and, when all the dust cleared, I found myself truly interested in other people.

You can't teach an old dog new tricks...unless, perhaps, you praise him enthusiastically...and feed him the meat he craves.

Sometimes old sayings go too far.

If you can teach yourself some new tricks then you can teach old dogs new tricks.
