How To Create A Real Scary Sales Monster [a recipe]

by Rick Baker
On Oct 19, 2018

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

I created a real scary sales monster.

Really, I am not 100% sure how I did it.

I just know I did it.

Actually, I did it more than once in my career.

I somehow created some high-octane sales beasties that were real scary.

While I don't have the exact recipe I do know the key ingredients and the key process steps:

1.     Take 2 big egos - make sure one is your own and the other junior [junior, in the hierarchical sense or you will not be able to claim credit for the creation of the Sales Monster]

2.     Apply some loud volume.

3.     Blend the big egos together harshly with some lofty goals.

4.     Send the junior ego out to the field under very-tight time deadlines.

5.     Allow a free run for a few days.

6.     Voila - a Sales Monster.

[bon appetit]

The more you squeeze their heads in the vice the less clearly they think.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

While a little pressure may go a long way, constructive criticism is an oxymoron and excessive criticism is guaranteed to cause headaches.

You don't see yourself the way others see you. Need proof? Look in a mirror. See - you already got it backwards.

When we invented mirrors we invented a useful tool...mirrors allow us to do wonderful things like checking out our new suit and fixing our make-up before we leave the house in the morning. When you take a bit of time to think about it...isn't it a little annoying that when we think we get those things right we actually get them 100% backwards. The other 7,000,000,000 people out there see us and everything about us the exact opposite way.

Small stuff is like a sponge. If you sweat over it long enough it becomes so big & heavy it drags you under.

When fear of failure prevails, it causes people to sweat the small stuff.

Fear of Failure...one of the 6 Fears identified by Napoleon Hill in his classic 'Think and Grow Rich', (1937).

Fear is powerful. It is able to close our eyes and ears...and, sometimes, even our mouths.

It is interesting to observe, of all our faculties, our mouths are often the last to give in.

Our habits take us either toward or away from our goals.

Your choices, whether intentional or not, become your habits.

Pervasive habits are like governors...some good and some bad.

The more elusive your goals, the more pervasive your bad habits.

...and, vice-cersa

Paraphrasing Napoleon Hill - the wind can take you east or west, depending on how you set your sail.
