Why Not?

by Rick Baker
On Aug 21, 2014

Why not aim for excellent performance?

Why not strive for task and process mastery?

Why not strive for craftsmanship?

Why not aim for minimal errors?

Why not aim for clear communication?

Why not aim to deliver on all the commitments we make to our clients?

Why not meet the time deadlines we agreed to?

It’s an issue of character.

It's an issue of culture.

Why not aim for a culture of excellence?

You don’t have time to do a good job on those things today. Take comfort. Later, you will find time to do many of them over.

Of course you have the time to do all those things right the first time...today!

That Aversion to the Details

by Rick Baker
On Jul 28, 2014

When people are at work, why do they avoid the details?

Do they feel they are too busy and do not have time to attend to the details?

Do they think the details are someone else's responsibility rather than part of their job?

Do they feel too bored or too fatigued to bother with the details?

Do they choose to avoid the details so they can concentrate on big-picture things?

Do they choose to avoid the details because they know others are more skilled with the details?

Do they choose to avoid certain details so they can think about other details?

Do they feel frustrated as they avoid the details?

Do they feel energized as they avoid the details?

Do they feel weakened as they avoid the details?

Do they feel strengthened as they avoid the details?

Does their business falter as they avoid the details?

Does their business gain advantage as they avoid the details?

***

That aversion to the details can be a wonderful thing for all involved...or it can be brutal.

If that aversion to the details is a wonderful thing at your workplace then figure out how to replicate it.

If that aversion to the details is a brutal thing at your workplace then figure out how to stop it.

Talk about bad habits: Instead of saying "I don't have time"why not communicate the real problem?

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Saying "I don't have time" and "I'm too busy" ... those are bad habits. They are bad habits that show how a person can self-brainwash to distract self or others or protect against something. But what? What is really going on behind those false claims?

"I'm too busy." When you make a habit of saying that you addict yourself to self-injections of stress.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Your brain reacts when you say things like, "I'm too busy." and "I don't have time." When your brain hears you say things like that it, subconsciously, begins to work to help you out. Your brain knows time is a thing it cannot control. Your brain knows your body is a thing it can control. So, your brain works to control your body by providing it chemical and electrical changes to help it deal with the stress you are telling it you are under by saying things like, "I'm too busy." and "I don't have time."

Self-stressing about time...now there's a destructive habit!

PS: Successful People Have More Time.

How do people who are too busy find time to (1) share their problems with others & (2) watch Reality TV?

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

When 2 pet peeves collide...

(1) People ain't too busy - they just brainwash themselves that way.

(2) Reality TV just ain't - at least it ain't the sort of reality that creates value.
