Intrinsic drives often persist as lifelong drives.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Do you have some internal drives that have survived for decades? If you do then you know what I'm talking about.

Long-lasting, persistent wants/needs/drives reveal much about character and personality.

[Time and effort spent working to fulfill these persistent drives is time and effort well spent.]

Leadership grit grinds & grows.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

John Wayne is one of my heroes. Every time I hear the word 'grit' I think of Rooster Cogburn, the character John Wayne played when he won the Best Actor Oscar for his role in 'True Grit'. More specifically, I think of the scene where he took on all the bad guys and won. The above picture shows Rooster charging at the bad guys...guns a blazin'...the perfect hero.

Grit - firmness of mind or spirit : unyielding courage in the face of hardship or danger

Not just in the movies but also in real life, John Wayne had true grit.

We need more leaders with true grit.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

You will find decision-making becomes easier and 'less conflicted' when you develop the habit of testing your decisions against your personal values.

There's a good reason why Shakespeare put that "doth protest too much" line in Hamlet. Many people are unable to express an objection and leave it at that. Rather, many people express an objection and go on and on...providing either gory details or more examples, or both.

Now I must stop here before I too doth protest too much...

...it would, for example, be wrong to deliver a ripe example of this I witnessed as recently as...

About Influencing Powerful People - #3

Talking About Influencing Powerful People - here's another Dirk Schlimm quote:

“What makes these geniuses so powerful is not ground-level expertise or vision. It is the fact that they have both; they are equally capable of and comfortable with micromanaging and dreaming up a large-scale, big-picture vision.”

Creativity feeds and grows...depending on the curiosity behind its dominating questions.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Curiosity is the precursor to Creativity.

We see Curiosity in young children...they approach life as if it is a question free-for-all.

Children, somehow, know they must ask questions or they will learn little and not do well in life.

Curiosity is one childlike habit we should not give up.
