Everyone wants to use personal strengths to create value and see others showing appreciation of that value.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Now, I suppose a few people do their best work and have no expectation that it will be appreciated by others. If those people do exist then they are extremely rare indeed.

Most people have egos and egos have needs. Egos are the essence of needs and needs are the essence of egos. And, needs have internal and external implications.

Speak of the devil's advocate...better still, bite your tongue.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Constructive criticism is an oxymoron.

Devil's Advocates ... here's an excerpt from Wikipedia: "In common parlance, a devil's advocate is someone who, given a certain argument, takes a position he or she does not necessarily agree with, for the sake of argument."

Those words - "Devil's Advocate" have a nasty connotation....we should not use them or the practice they capture.

Instead, consider using a planned strategy for seeking different perspectives when large problems are to be solved and important decisions are to be made.

Try, for example, using Edward de Bono's Six Thinking Hats

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

When I am inept I am overwhelmed by my workload. When I am overwhelmed by my workload I believe I don't have enough time. When I believe I don't have enough time I don't do what is required to remedy my ineptitude.

What a Catch-22.

Better fix that!

Attention to Detail is a valuable leadership tool...unless it takes over its owner.

Too much of a Good Habit = a Bad Habit.

And, that's how the Devil lurks in the details.

Your communication style influences people much more than your logic.

According to Chip Heath and Dan Heath ['Decisive', 2013] "When the researchers compared whether process or analysis was more important in producing good decisions - those that increased revenues, profits, and market share - they found that "process mattered more than analysis - by a factor of six.""

Good Decision Making relies on good decision-making processes.

Good Influencing relies on good influence-making processes.

First go through then go beyond the motions.

Go the extra mile; catch someone's attention; deliver, impress, and influence.
