Know Negativity

by Rick Baker
On Feb 10, 2012

Have you ever stopped to think about negativity?

I mean - have you ever set aside 30 minutes or so to consider what negativity does and the many forms negativity takes.

An Introduction to What Negativity Does

  1. It consumes and wastes our precious personal-energy.
  2. It is contagious, affecting one then infecting other people...wasting their personal-energies.
  3. If you believe in the Law of Attraction then negativity attracts more negativity and causes negative outcomes.

The Forms Negativity Takes

We do not have to think and do these negative things.

We do them because they are part of human nature. We do them because many of us were not born with the gift of self-monitoring and self-regulation....so, if we want to be less negative then we must learn how to do it. And, learning how to be less negative takes work and discipline. It is a skill.

Being less negative is a skill we can learn if we choose to.

Working on being less negative is a Good Habit.

Thought Tweet #409

Thought Tweet #409 Confidence: what you feel when you believe you have what it takes to do well, or excel at Actions in Situations

The Thinking Behind the Tweet

That's a Spirited Leaders' definition. Like Courage, Confidence is one of Spirited Leaders' Values. Courage and Confidence go hand in hand...with Courage taking the lead.

An Economic Forecast

People's attitudes tend to spread. One person expresses a view to many people. Some of those people embrace the view. Then some of those people express the view to other people. This chain-communication spreads views and attitudes.

Technology advancements have radically changed communication capability. We now enjoy a communication capability that is very close to real-time and very close to fully-worldwide.

When we feel and think then talk in more-optimistic ways we spread more-optimistic thought and messages.

When we feel and think then talk in more-pessimistic ways we spread more-pessimistic thought and messages.

When we spread more-optimistic thoughts and messages the economy tends to grows and prosper.

When we spread more-pessimistic thoughts and messages the economy tends to shrink and fail.

This happens because People's Actions always follow their Feelings and Thoughts. While there are some exceptions to this 'rule' such as blinking in reaction to a surprise motion or jumping in reaction to a surprise sound or touch...this 'rule' certainly applies to buying, selling, and the various other trans-Actions that generate economies.

How to Improve the Economy:

  1. Accept as a fact of life - nobody can accurately predict the future.
  2. Accept as a fact of life - some people tend to be optimistic, others tend to be pessimistic, and everyone else tends to be neutral.
  3. Accept as fact of life - the louder few always get more ear-time than the silent majority.
  4. Choose to be just a little more optimistic about the economy.
  5. Talk as enthusiastically as you feel about your optimism.
  6. If you cannot accommodate #4 or #5 above then - be silent. [Spreading pessimism is of no value to anyone.]

An Economic Forecast

The economy is changing for the better...are you ready for the ride!

Thought Tweet #408

by Rick Baker
On Feb 8, 2012
Thought Tweet #408 Ego is the part of the mind that causes us to do what feels good to us or looks good to others.

The Thinking Behind the Tweet

That's a Spirited Leaders' definition. Some say Ego is a flaw. For example, if I understand him accurately, Eckhart Tolle considers Ego to be a pain body that really provides no benefit. [And I have a great deal of respect for Eckhart Tolle.] I think Ego is a valuable piece of the human condition but it is only valuable when people self-monitor and self-regulate to make sure Ego stays within boundaries of moderation.

Talk About PRESSURE

by Rick Baker
On Feb 8, 2012

In science classes they teach PV=nRT.

As the Pressure goes up so does the Temperature.

Put another way - under pressure, things heat up.

Sometimes we see that in business. When the pressure is on, say because of a major-deal deadline or a market crash, people can get hot under the collar...or get all steamed up...or crack under the pressure.

When business pressures rise, some people do better than others. Some people seem to perform their best when the pressure is on. Others seem to perform their worst.

How might we predict whether or not a person will handle pressure well?

How might we help people improve their handling of pressure situations?

Here are a few of thoughts...

Personality assessments, for example D.I.S.C., give 2 results:

  • the person's 'natural' personality
  • the person's personality we are likely to see when that person is 'under pressure'
And, 'programs' are provided to help people understand the different types of personalities and how to adjust actions to communicate better with each different style. [I know this does not do justice to the assessments...I am just trying to provide a concise introduction.]

I have found these assessments are of some value, however, I have not seen many people who have received lasting benefits. I believe the assessment reports are too lengthy and too complicated for most people...people find the amount of follow-up work daunting. So, they don't do it.

Dr. Sian Beilock wrote a book called CHOKE. That book presents some counter-intuitive points, which are definitely worth considering. Specifically, I agree it is dangerous to assume a high IQ is a benefit when it comes to working under pressure.

Another important area must be considered: innate Talents and personal Strengths. There should be no question, people do better when they are operating in their Talent & Strength zone. During the last 2 years, we have found STRENGTHSFINDER assessments to be very well received and very helpful.

It is clear - Leaders can help others do a better job of preparing for and handling business pressure.

And, today, this is a responsibility Leaders must take on.

Thought Tweet #407

Thought Tweet #407 COURAGE: self-inflicted mental and moral strength to act in the face of fear, difficulty, and criticism

The Thinking Behind the Tweet

That's a Spirited Leaders' definition. For us, Courage is the 'Great Enabler'. It enables self-analysis, self-confidence, self-development, lifelong learning, curiosity, creativity, innovation, and a host of other very good character traits and action orientations.
