To lead, use light fingers at the controls. Heavy-finger governance and control just sends things off kilter.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

From Wikipedia...

In 1868, James Clerk Maxwell wrote a famous paper "On governors” that is widely considered a classic in feedback control theory.

An early governor                              James Clerk Maxwell

In the 19th Century, Maxwell proved that tight governing of steam engine speed created bigger surprises than light governing.

We can apply this fact to 21st Century business process.

In business we need guiding principles and Master Rules.

A comment for the media: Bad news does not have to make such good news.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

We can choose to avoid or choose to limit our exposure to negative situations, experiences, and people.

Bad news does not have to make such good news.

Criticism has no right to reign.

We do so much better when we avoid the "Negative Society"

If we had not learned the word "No" when we were young, we would spend a lot less time thinking about our mistakes.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

When we were young a lot of people started to say "No" to us. We were made to believe it was wrong to say and do certain things....many things. The rules of "No" versus "Yes" were inconsistent, depending on who was saying the rules and where all of us were [mental schema, states of mind, etc.] when the rules were being expressed.

Regardless, when we were instructed "No", we received the message we were doing something wrong...i.e., we were making a mistake. We heard "No" so many times when we were young much of our current thoughts involve our past mistakes, sometimes even the mistakes we made when we were very young.

We should learn to shake mistakes off.

Where are you coming from? & Where are you trying to go?

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Do people have thick enough skin to ask these questions?

Do people have thick enough skin to answer them?

It seems to me...if people set aside assumptions and conclusions long enough to ask and answer these two questions communication would find itself in much better condition.

Willpower: we make a good habit of it or it slips away on us.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Willpower, like any other good habit, demands much energy. So, we must use it wisely and regularly. We must drain it, rebuild it, and strengthen it.

Willpower [and its outcome, self-control]: you must use it or you will not have it.

If our ancient ancestors thought and acted like they were too busy they would have been eaten. Then where would we be?

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

The next time you feel inclined to complain about being too busy think of your ancestors.

Wonderful heritage - Evolution didn't let you down.  Did it?

How about your descendants - what are you passing on to them?

Hopefully, you're not passing on the I'm-too-busy gene.
