"Man was born into fear in that he was born into a world of which most of the energies were set against him."

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

An interesting quote from [Canadian-born] Basil King's 'The Conquest of Fear', (1921) Yes - most of the energies we experience are set against us…but, fortunately, (1) not the most-important one & (2) we have managed to partially-harness some of those set-against-us energies and put them to good use [as examples: fire & heat, electricity & magnetism, wind and solar energy].

How do you psych yourself up for that really important sales call? Special clothes? Self-talk? Loud music?

The Thinking Behind the Tweet

The sales gurus have lots of ideas. But, never mind that for now. This Sales Tweet is about self-analysis. What do you do to psych yourself up when lots of chips are on the buyer-seller table? Think about each thing you do and when you do it. Think about the details of these things. Get a piece of paper and write down at least 3 things. Think about - WHY?

2 types of people succeed in business: (1) those who naturally 'get it' and (2) those who observe well & learn.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

There are only 2 types of people who experience meaningful success in business:

  1. Those few, the intuitive, who somehow naturally 'get it' and 'seek & solve' their way for as long as it takes to obtain success.
  2. Those few who observe and attend to mentors [who are willing to help them], emulate heroes' best qualities and sooner or later, after much work, 'get it'.

In business, no other types of people achieve meaningful success.

Accept the fact things will go awry: appreciate that provides opportunity to build courage and confidence.

Nothing meaningful happens without stress.

Stress, when coupled with positive mindsets, invokes the wonderful things that bring about courage.

Without stress there can be no Self-confidence.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Self-confidence is built, over time, as stressful thoughts and situations are faced and dealt with.

'Stressors' bring learning experiences that test self-confidence. The capacity to handle situations expands with experience. As increasingly-stressful learning experiences are handled, self-confidence grows.

Without successful handling of stressors self-confidence has no chance to grow.

[Avoidance may provide relief  but it works against self-confidence.]

[Unsuccessful efforts at handling stressors may injure self-confidence...but, only if you let it...failures provide the opportunity to figure out 'better ways'...sooner or later 'better ways' lead to successful outcomes and then self-confidence grows.]

Even if that cloud doesn't have a silver lining it still might bring a rainbow.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

While I have never explored the interior of clouds to discern whether or not they are actually silver...I have marveled at the majesty of rainbows.

[Perhaps that's not too bad for a half-colour-blind guy who studied math and engineering.]

[[...now about that visible light spectrum]]
