The reality inside TVs is burying the reality outside TVs

by Rick Baker
On Dec 24, 2013

It's the grand illusion of the 21st Century: the reality inside TVs is burying the reality outside TVs.

In support of Reality...

Just the other day an acquaintance explained just how foolish I am because I refuse to watch Duck Dynasty. Next thing I know I will be chastised for missing ED commercials. If I want to see a Duck Dynasty I will help the Mallards in the back pond scheme to gain ground on those prolific Canada Geese.

Superficial reality. Mind-rotting programs wrapped in mind-rotting advertising. Watched by people who are too busy.

Not to get too philosophical or too physicistic...

Perhaps our perceptions are illusions? Perhaps we are living in a multi-dimensional multi-universe? Perhaps life itself is a deceptive illusion?

We should not fret these questions.

Nor should we be distracted.

We have more important things to focus on.

We have reality on TV!

Thought Tweet #893

by Rick Baker
On Dec 18, 2013

Thought Tweet #893 Why did Evolution deny human ears the privilege of showing us when they are actually operating?

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Our eyes fare better.

Even our mouths, which cause us so much trouble, fare better.

This helps us understand why dogs are Mans' Best Friend.

Thought Tweet #871

by Rick Baker
On Nov 18, 2013

Thought Tweet #871 In pre-historic times people who didn't listen got eaten...now they are able to roam the streets and work in offices.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Could it be 21st Century predators are a forgiving lot of creatures?

Could it be Darwin was wrong?

...survival of the fittest? ... or was it survival of the most adaptable? ... or is it survival of the least able to listen?

Assuming evolution is an accurate theory - and I'm not so sure about that any more - How many generations will it take for human ears to shrink and disappear through lack of use?

Thought Tweet #870

by Rick Baker
On Nov 15, 2013

Thought Tweet #870 5 reasons to listen: (1) to respond, (2) to act, (3) to understand, (4) because it's your job, & (5) because you like people.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Most people listen poorly.

It's reciprocal: people don't listen to them so they return the disfavour.

Then there's this pent up ego demand to express thoughts rather than listen to them.

***

If we don't relearn how to listen evolution is going to adapt our ears into oblivion.

[One drawback of civilization: people who don't listen no longer get eaten by predators.]

Thought Tweet #866

by Rick Baker
On Nov 11, 2013

Thought Tweet #866 The only reason you are not a donkey is that your mother and father were not donkeys.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

  1. "The only reason you are not a rattlesnake is that your mother and father were not rattlesnakes." Dale Carnegie, 'How to Win Friends and Influence People', (1939 - Toronto publication)
  2. Don't judge too harshly. Don't judge too quickly. Don't judge.
  3. ...in search of political correctness...Sure hope no donkeys are reading this.

Thought Tweet #864.5

by Rick Baker
On Nov 7, 2013

Thought Tweet #864.5 "Men are ruled by toys." [Perhaps, there is joy in things.]

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

My favourite composer, Richard Wagner apparently said, "Joy is not in us, it is in things."

I understand the 'theory' but struggle with the 'practice'.

Many things, some small, trigger joy in me: pocket knives and souvenir coins are examples. More specifically, I get a kick out of my Laguiole jack-knives and my Napoleon Bonaparte coin. [200 years ago Napoleon bought Laguiole knives for his officers...that put the Laguiole company on the map... and their knives still display the 'Bonaparte Bee'.]

Napoleon bought lots of trinkets and toys for his officers.

When his practice of buying toys for his men was questioned, Napoleon replied, "Men are ruled by toys.

I understand the 'theory' and the 'practice'.
