Thought Tweet #707

by Rick Baker
On Apr 2, 2013

Thought Tweet #707 "There's a time and a place"...that's about SituationsHow to be and how not to be in situations, that is the question.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

We have been taught and we have learned this. So we adjust our behaviour to fit our perception of Situations. Put another way - Situations provide a container for behaviour and our behaviour flows from one situation-container to the next situation-container to the next situation-container and so on.

All of us act like actors. We act all day long...adjusting to the time and the place...adjusting to the situation. Each of us plays a number of roles. Real-life situations are snapshots of scenes...the types of scenes we see acted out in plays, movies, and TV shows. Scenes contain people and process. The scripts embedded in our heads define the way we will act in given situations. We can accept those scripts or we can re-write them. We have that choice. We can decide how we want to act in given situations...even the most-challenging situations. We have choices.

How to be and how not to be in situations, that is the question.

Thought Tweet #695

Thought Tweet #695 I'd rather tweet than taste defeat. [Whatever you think, please don't blame #DanPink.]

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Just finished Dan Pink's new book, 'To Sell is Human', (2013).

In the book, Dan talked about the importance of rhyme in marketing...psychologists have proven people deem messages that rhyme to be more believable than messages that do not rhyme. Also, Dan talked about using social media, including Twitter. So, I am working on some rhyme-marketing messages.

Of course I agree To Sell Is Human!...I believe in Marketing!... and I sure want to keep up with Social Media!

So I decided to kill all the birds with one stone and start my marketing-rhyme adventure with 'rhyming tweets about tweets'.

Hence...I'd rather tweet than taste defeat.

And...

I'd rather tweet than feel the heat.

I'd rather tweet than be less sweet.

I'd rather tweet than forecast sleet.

I'd rather tweet than lose my seat.

I'd rather tweet than scratch my seat.

I'd rather tweet than pound the beat.

I'd rather tweet than walk the street.

I'd rather tweet than stub my feet.

I'd rather tweet than sand my feet.

I'd rather tweet than smell your feet.

I think I am getting the hang of this Dan...to sell is human...to rhyme is devine...

I'd rather tweet than cook snake meat.

I'd rather tweet than press a pleat.

I'd rather tweet than shovel peat.

I'd rather tweet than walk in sleet.

I'd rather tweet than iron a sheet.

I'd rather tweet than sink a fleet.

I'd rather tweet than bah or bleat.

I'd rather tweet than watch cows eat.

I'd rather tweet than stroke from heat.

I'd rather tweet than rub your feet.

Definitely feeling good about this new-age social marketing!

I'd rather tweet than give up wheat.

I'd rather tweet than chew a beet.

I'd rather tweet than be discrete.

I'd rather tweet than eat raw meat.

I'd rather tweet than press Delete...

[Oops]

Thought Tweet #689 Eating Elephant Emotions...you gotta eat them one bite at a time.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

People behave like Riders on Elephants on Paths. And our emotional Elephants outweigh our logical Riders 40-to-1.

Thought Tweet #662

Thought Tweet #662 Unknowns: it's a good thing we only have to deal with them when we solve problems, do tasks, & think creatively.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

I've read there are 3 types of knowledge:

  • knowledge we know we know
  • knowledge we know we don't know
  • knowledge we don't know we don't know
If we didn't have those things we know then everything would be unknown.

Thought Tweet #630

by Rick Baker
On Dec 14, 2012

Thought Tweet #630 With the pressing of all those buttons, the 30-Second Elevator Speech is going down.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

As you no doubt have noticed, there's been quite a bit of growth in the area of social media. This is impacting on good-old-fashioned sales work. The sales gurus are now recommending a 17 or 18 second Elevator Speech [AKA - 30-Second Commercial...or, should I say 17- or 18-Second Commercial?].

I favour shrinking the Elevator Speech to zero and, if and when the time is right to sense & catch attention, using words less canned and more natural.

Thought Tweet #609

by Rick Baker
On Nov 15, 2012

Thought Tweet #609 It is getting far more difficult to run with the silent, hobbled majority.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Apathy has inertia. Apathy has always had inertia. However, in the past apathy faced much less distraction than it faces today.

In our 21st Century life, our apathy faces an intense barrage of information input: particularly, visual stimuli and audio stimuli. This intense barrage of information wraps itself tightly around our apathy...weakening...and at the same time making our apathy feel more comfortable.

Our apathy has been hobbled by information overload.
