Communication Tip...or Warning: If you want to shut them down, put them down.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

When you have authority, most people shut down, in one way or another, in response to your criticism.

Maybe you want them to shut down?

Maybe you don't?

...what are you trying to accomplish with all that criticism?

Communication Tip: When you make a fine argument...shut up, listen, watch, & learn.

First, learn about the extent of the fineness of your argument. I mean, bring your thick skin and thin skull...and keep your ego under full control.

Was your argument really as fine as you thought?

Oh...I see...how silly of me...I should have known you are too busy to listen.

I should have noticed your inability to make eye contact, your looking over my shoulder, your interruptions...it all makes sense...you are too busy.

'Telling' ain't halfway near what it's cut out to be. Reminds me of my early career when we had a Mel Sell and a Mel Tell. Actually it was probably Mel Tel but nobody ever wrote it. They just said it.

People think 600-700 words per minute. People talk 100-200 words per minute. Most people listen...maybe 8 or 10?

Listening - a little bit goes a long way. Just imagine what could be accomplished by a lot of listening.
