Thought Tweet #978

by Rick Baker

Thought Tweet #978 When it comes to delivering criticism it is better to conclude every little bit hurts rather than every little bit helps.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

When they deliver criticism, some people like to lay it on thick.

They seem oblivious to the fact nobody likes to receive it that way.

Thought Tweet #977 When compelled to express criticism, at least be considerate enough to reduce the quantity of it to the must-have items.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Criticism: less is better.

And: Why tune out the person you are trying to correct.

Thought Tweet #976 Catcheth thou when thou doth protest too much.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

There's a good reason why Shakespeare put that "doth protest too much" line in Hamlet. Many people are unable to express an objection and leave it at that. Rather, many people express an objection and go on and on...providing either gory details or more examples, or both.

Now I must stop here before I too doth protest too much...

Our lives are lived in little steps.

by Rick Baker
On Apr 14, 2014

Our lives are lived in little steps.

We think little thoughts. Some catch on and grow. Some become habits in our minds. Some grow to the point of overpowering us. Little steps of thought habits fill much of our conscious time.

We do little actions. Some are repeated and become habits. Then we repeat them, acting them out over and over again. Little behavioural habits fill much of our conscious time.

Everything we think about or generate externally starts out small.

We want much. We want to generate more. We want to do bold things. We want to use talents. We want to leave legacies.

Regardless, everything we accomplish, good or bad or indifferent, happens in small steps performed in short periods of time.

Thought Tweet #975 Emotions + Stress = Irrational Behaviour

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Emotions cause us to do illogical/irrational things, things we regret.

Stress can act like a hair trigger, accelerating and expanding this effect of Emotions.

Can you keep a finger on your Emotion pulse?

Do you know when Stress is getting the better of you?

Typically, people answer "Yes" to both those questions.

Typically, people are wrong on both accounts.

The Awesome Power of Procrastination

by Rick Baker
On Apr 11, 2014

The Awesome Power of Procrastination: without it small amounts of short-term gain would never out-muscle the much larger long-term gain. And, avoiding small amounts of short-term pain would never out-muscle avoiding the much larger long-term pain.

Procrastination is the great equalizer: it gives immediate needs the ability to defy our important goals and our common sense.
