Business Leaders Need to Stop De-Motivating Their People

by Rick Baker
On Feb 12, 2013

A leader cannot motivate anyone else.

A leader can inspire followers.

A leader can lead by example.

Leaders are self-motivated…if they are not then they soon lose their followers.

While people cannot motivate others, they can de-motivate others.

Leaders do this far too often.

When people are in roles that involve Tasks outside their Talent & Strength Zones, they will tend to be de-motivated.

Leaders must ensure that roles and tasks fit people’s Talents & Strengths.

Only then will people be self-motivated.

Put another way…leaders need to make sure the seats on the bus fit the people and make sure the people fit the seats on the bus.

This is a lot of detailed work…that’s the price 21st Century business leaders will have to pay in order to succeed.

Here's the picture...
