Like Beauty, Fairness is in the eye of the beholder.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Fairness - an admirable motive...but, one that has a really difficult time surviving both delivery and receipt.

Fairness - a thing that tends to be torn between biased perspectives.

The rest of the world will treat me unfairly...OK...I will live with that.

I will treat others unfairly...OK...I will live with that too.

Maybe it isn't more blessed to give than to receive - consider the Ben Franklin Effect.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Ben Franklin found people, even people who clearly disliked him, responded positively when he asked them for a favour. As one example, back in the day - almost 300 years ago, books were very rare in New England. Benjamin Franklin asked a political opponent [who had publicly criticized Ben] to lend him one of his prized books. The person loaned the book to Franklin, who read it quickly and thoroughly then returned it. After this experience, the opponent softened his attitude toward Franklin.

These Ben Franklin experiences led to what is now known as the Ben Frankin Effect

There is no set reality; reality is but what we make of it, nothing more, nothing less, unless we ask for another's view.

Along the lines of 'perception is reality' and 'don't assume, ask questions'...and much more.

Willpower consumes energy. Energy is scarce. Use willpower wisely.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Willpower must be one of the human body's most energy-intensive processes.

We must exercise willpower or it becomes weak.

We must rest willpower so it re-energizes.

Exercising it wisely and resting it: these are the keys to building willpower and growing success.

Keep your eyes & ears open: They may be able to preach what they cannot practice.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

"Do as I say, not as I do."  &  "Practice what you preach.

We use these sayings as justifications and criticisms when advice appears sanctimonious or disingenuous.

The first saying may be more annoying than helpful...just throwing gas on the fire. The second saying is a close-minded response to people who give us advice they, themselves, cannot follow.

While it would be wonderful if all the people who provide advice were masters of performance, we should not expect our teachers will be masters of performance: knowing how and doing well are 2 different things. For example, the maestro conductor does not have the combined performance abilities of all the master performers in the orchestra. Nonetheless, the maestro conductor has the ability to teach all the master performers.

Willpower: we make a good habit of it or it slips away on us.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Willpower, like any other good habit, demands much energy. So, we must use it wisely and regularly. We must drain it, rebuild it, and strengthen it.

Willpower [and its outcome, self-control]: you must use it or you will not have it.
