Let's not stumble along purposeless roads...let's construct better paths.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

"A person with clear purpose will make progress even on the roughest road. A person with no purpose will make no progress even on the smoothest road."

Thomas Carlyle, Scottish philosopher (1795-1881)

***

When I think about this I wonder if it would be better said - A person with clear purpose makes progress despite the roughness of the road.

Then I wonder if it should be - A person with clear purpose will make progress because of the roughness of the road.

And...

The smoother the road the less likely you will reach your long-term destination.

The smoother the road the less likely you will know or achieve your long-term purpose.

And finally...friends...

Let's not stumble along purposeless roads...let's construct better paths.

Thought has two forms: one is Creative, the other is not.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

It seems I  am on the verge of concluding Thought is either Creative or Destructive...never in between the two.

Our Creative Thoughts are aligned with our true Goals...leading to productive building and growth.

Since all other thoughts are not aligned with our true Goals they subtract from achievement of our true Goals...leading to things that are not productive building or growth. Their effect is distraction from our true Goals, which is negative, making them "Destructive Thoughts".

An ounce of problem-finding is worth a pound of problem-solving.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

As the saying goes, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."

So, why not plan with methodical risk-management. That's a key to 21st Century success.

Reach out to problems.

Seek simple solutions.

Take decisive actions.

Achieve small goals.

Achieve large goals.

Our habits take us either toward or away from our goals.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Your choices, whether intentional or not, become your habits.

Pervasive habits are like governors...some good and some bad.

The more elusive your goals, the more pervasive your bad habits.

...and, vice-cersa

Paraphrasing Napoleon Hill - the wind can take you east or west, depending on how you set your sail.

Focus on the goal and move beyond the obstacles; Move beyond the obstacles and focus on the goal.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

There's an interesting relationship between goals and problems:

  • if we focus on problems, we can bet side-tracked and stall out before we achieve goals
  • if we focus on goals, we build momentum and confidence...and do a better job tackling problems
When we think beyond problems - when we desire success and focus thought on goals - we have an easier time handling problems.

Problems are inevitable, goals are not.

Intrinsic Goals feel right...they inspire & they energize.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Intrinsic Goals envision life purpose, mastery of task, and self-actualization. Naturally, intrinsic goals align with talents and Strengths. And, in contrast to extrinsic goals, intrinsic goals tend to broaden rather than restrict experiences.
