...and business allies.

Thought Tweet #776.5

by Rick Baker
On Jul 8, 2013

Thought Tweet #776.5 Don't muddle through the same old problems. Engage Talents and address new, more-lucrative problems.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Some people muddle thought the same old business problems - day after day. [Often, 'people problems'.] These people experience stress and confusion but not success.

Some people learn how to solve the basic problems. And, these people graduate to bigger and better problems...and success.

Good Decisions: at the heart of your business

by Rick Baker
On Jul 5, 2013

Consider the decisions made at your business:

  • Are decisions made quickly?
  • Do decisions receive attention and quality input from many people?
  • Are decisions understood and implemented successfully?

These are important areas:

  • the simplicity with which decisions can be made,
  • the quality of input received prior to finalizing decisions, and
  • the success rates for implementation of decisions.

If your leadership team scores high in these areas then your business will stand above most of your competitors:

  • Your business will be fleet of foot.
  • Your business will be thinking accurately and acting properly.
  • Your business will be able to forecast, budget, and receive profitability.

All of these things contribute to a best-in-class workplace and a sustainable approach to business. Less than these things signals potential problems. More often than not, the problems have passed through the potential stage and they are real - real problems. Now, problems are a necessary ingredient if we want to make business our career. However, repeated problems are destined to ruin the business recipe. And, too many problems spoil the business meal.

So, there is value in stepping back and checking the pulse of your business decision-making:

  • Is it a healthy pulse?
  • If so then you will find decisions are made relatively quickly.
  • Is it a strong pulse?
  • If so then you will find your key people are pushing in the same directions as your decisions.
  • Is it a pulse that can withstand stress?
  • If so you will find it is a variable pulse, able to hum away at methodical work and also able to ramp up when situations demand more.

And finally, is it a pulse that complains rarely If it does not complain too much about already-made decisions then it is a good and healthy pulse...a beating pulse.

The beat goes on.

Desired results follow.

Thought Tweet #735

Thought Tweet #735 Slightly annoyed people used to say, "Get a Life". Reality TV has taken the sting out of that admonition.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

It's now incredibly easy to 'get a life'. Our TV remotes provide us a full range of lives...numerous reality choices with many variations on how to annoy other people - annoying co-workers, annoying family members, annoying aspiring singers & aspiring dancers & aspiring entrepreneurs...annoying all types of people in all types of real-life situations...all available at the flick of a switch.

Question:

Do you spend more time (A) annoying other people or (B) watching people you don't know annoying other people you don't know on TV?

And, for those who are not avid practitioners in the art of annoying others...

Do you spend more time (A) solving your own problems or (B) watching other people struggle with their problems on TV?

Do you ask the right questions about your problems?

P=2S+O

[a Spirited philosophy]

For every Problem you bring to me, show me at least 2 Solutions and let me know if you see any Opportunities.

Some Questions:

Do you spend more time (A) working at solving your own problems or (B) watching other people struggle with their problems on TV?

Do you spend more time (A) discussing problems from reality TV shows or (B) discussing your own problems?

Do you spend more time (A) talking to co-workers about your problems or (B) thinking about possible solutions to your problems?

Do you spend more time (A) figuring out the causes of your problems or (B) implementing solutions to your problems?

Do you spend more time (A) thinking about your problems or (B) acting on solutions to your problems?

Do you spend more time (A) looking for opportunities linked to your problems or (B) seeking the root cause of your problems?

Do you spend more time (A) listening to others complain about their problems or (B) telling people about opportunities linked to your problems?

Thought Tweet #714

by Rick Baker
On Apr 11, 2013

Thought Tweet #714 The people you know have enough challenges and fears on their own plates to make your problems pale by comparison.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Also, your achievements do little to alleviate others’ fears, or address their challenges, or attack their opportunities, or resolve their problems. You will have excelled if your achievements alleviate some of your own fears, let alone touch at removing the fears of others.

You may obtain value by considering that, from time to time.
