Thought Tweet #954

Thought Tweet #954 Trust is Influence's sweet spot.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

If a tennis racquet can have a sweet spot, so can Influence.

If you wanted to pave the path for Influence and you could only have one thing...

***

From Wikipedia...

"In a social context, trust has several connotations. Definitions of trust typically refer to a situation characterised by the following aspects: One party (trustor) is willing to rely on the actions of another party (trustee); the situation is directed to the future. In addition, the trustor (voluntarily or forcedly) abandons control over the actions performed by the trustee. As a consequence, the trustor is uncertain about the outcome of the other's actions; they can only develop and evaluate expectations. The uncertainty involves the risk of failure or harm to the trustor if the trustee will not behave as desired."

But...How to build trust?...Living with Integrity is a very good start.

Thought Tweet #953 If you can convince yourself you are too busy then you too can make worse decisions.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

  1. It's all in the way you hold your mind.
  2. You do not have to take the time required to make good decisions. It is your prerogative to make lousy decisions and nobody can take that right away from you.
  3. There's probably no better way to make lousy decisions than holding in your mind the thoughts, "I am too busy" and "I don't have time".
  4. If you put your mind to it you will find your mind will warm to the habit of "I am too busy" and "I don't have time". And soon, very soon, you will be able to make really lousy decisions.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

And - Emotions delegate erratically & poorly.

Emotions: astonishing, provocative, & ubiquitous ways of going about business.

Thought Tweet #951 The processes you use when you communicate influence people more than the logic you express.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

According to Chip Heath and Dan Heath ['Decisive', 2013] "When the researchers compared whether process or analysis was more important in producing good decisions - those that increased revenues, profits, and market share - they found that "process mattered more than analysis - by a factor of six.""

Good Decision Making relies on good decision-making processes.

Good Influencing relies on good influence-making processes.

And Business Contains Only 3 Things: People, Processes, & Situations

Thought Tweet #950 When people arrive with their problems, do you push away, kiss up, and beat down?

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Some people...

  • Push Away when peers and co-workers visit with problems,
  • Kiss Up when bosses visit with problems, &
  • Beat Down when subordinates and other junior employees visit with problems.
These practices are death knells for their small businesses.

Thought Tweet #949 Emotions wrap themselves tightly around thoughts about pain of loss...squeezing logic out.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

The emotions around loss weigh in heavier than the emotions around gain. Psychologists' experiments confirm we place much higher value on avoiding the pain of loss than we place on obtaining the pleasure of gain.

This defies logic.

But - let's not forget - logic-defiance is the territory of emotions
