Expanding Good Habits: that is Life's Major Construction.

by Rick Baker
On Jul 31, 2020

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Our Habits define us. Our Good Habits will be viewed positively by other people...assuming the other people are thoughtful and balanced.

So, for the benefit of other people there is nothing more worthy of construction than Good Habits

And, by definition, Good Habits make us feel good because they align with our Goals.

And finally, Bad Habits make no one feel good; they do the opposite; so, the more they are replaced with Good Habits the better.

Fear is powerful. It is able to close our eyes and ears...and, sometimes, even our mouths.

It is interesting to observe, of all our faculties, our mouths are often the last to give in.

Money- it can build confidence & quality character...but only if it is earned with effort, over time.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Money is an illustration of Value.

Money is an extrinsic reward...something we give and get in exchange for other things and actions of Value.

Extrinsic rewards are fleeting. So, money provides some short-term gratification then that gratification dissolves.

When extrinsic rewards are received too quickly or in too-large amounts the gratification can become like an overdose drug...and dysfunctional behaviour follows...hubris, inflated ego, etc.

When extrinsic rewards are received at a steady pace, in positive better-than-average amounts, the feeling of gratification is balanced...and this is comforting. One example of this comfort is the repeated confirmation that there is no need to fear poverty. And this sort of comfortable gratification feeds and grows self-confidence...which leads to enhancements of character.

In this way, money earned over time can help a person build quality character.

It's better when business solutions are less complicated than their problems.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

If you cannot get your people to do what needs to be done, you are not alone. And, perhaps you are not in good company. Or, perhaps you need some straightforward help. Do not buy into the current trend of thinking that good solutions need to be complex. That's untested...unproven smoke-and-mirrors opinion.

Small stuff is like a sponge. If you sweat over it long enough it becomes so big & heavy it drags you under.

When fear of failure prevails, it causes people to sweat the small stuff.

Fear of Failure...one of the 6 Fears identified by Napoleon Hill in his classic 'Think and Grow Rich', (1937).

Fear is the darkroom where negatives are developed.

The Thinking Behind the Tweet

I read that somewhere, many years ago. An interesting mind-picture.

A metaphor true to our anxieties.

We should avoid the darkrooms and the dark places where anxiety breeds; we should seek brilliance and concentrate on the brightest of lights.

Franklin D. Roosevelt

"...the only thing we have to fear is fear itself."

[Perhaps inspired by, or even coined by, Napoleon Hill.]
