Sales Tweet #135

by Rick Baker
On Jan 21, 2011
Sales Tweet #135 Yesterday, Ernest's favourite Client Mr. Kaye gave him 2 orders: “Get Out!” & “Stay Out!”

The Thinking Behind the Sales Tweet
But, don't worry about the relationship between Ernest and his favourite Client. Mr. Kaye doesn't hold a grudge for long. He just got fed up when Ernest dumped his coffee all over Mr. Kaye's bookshelf and favourite books. As a point of irony, the most-damaged book was a copy of Napoleon Hill's 'Think and Grow Rich'. Mr. Kaye gave the damaged book to Ernest. Odds are Ernest will not read it.

What 3 pieces of advice would you give to ‘young people’?

by Rick Baker
On Jan 20, 2011
That question was asked this week.

Imagine you could provide the best 3 pieces of advice to young people.

Imagine your 3 pieces of advice would help these young people have better, more-successful lives…regardless of how they choose to define ‘better’ or ‘success’.

What an important thing.

What a responsibility!

What 3 pieces of advice would you give?

I would be thrilled to know the pieces of advice you would give.

That would help me test my own thoughts.

That would help me provide the best advice.

Here are my thoughts…

The 3 pieces of advice I would give to ‘young people’:
  1. Dedicate part of each day to understanding yourself: learn confidence and be happy1
  2. Seek first to understand, then to be understood2 …while embracing the differences in people
  3. Use your strengths in play and in work3
Footnotes:
  1. Learn from people like Napoleon Hill  www.naphill.org …and Eckhart Tolle www.eckharttolle.com
  2. This is Stephen R. Covey’s 5th Habit www.stephencovey.com
  3. Here’s a link that can help – ‘StrengthsFinder’ www.strengthsfinder.com

Sales Tweet #134

by Rick Baker
On Jan 20, 2011
Sales Tweet #134 The Boss suggested Ernest use his brain...after all, it's the little things that count.

The Thinking Behind the Sales Tweet
Ernest sees himself as quite a handyman. He shares his handyman stories with his coworkers. The Boss, hearing all this, is trying to figure out how to get Ernest to do some DIY Thinking.

Sales Tweet #133

by Rick Baker

Sales Tweet #133 A sales person should be proud of his/her calling…and ashamed of his/her not calling.

The Thinking Behind the Sales Tweet
The thing to try when all else fails is again. Give it a try - not an alibi.

Values & Personal Values – our definition

by Rick Baker
On Jan 18, 2011
At Spirited Leaders, values and personal values mean the same thing.

Values & Personal Values
  • the qualities, standards, and principles a person desires, admires, and aspires to
  • the driving forces, which influence a person’s thoughts and actions
  • the driving forces, which influence the character a person presents to other people
We believe the business Leader’s personal values are not just the driving force for the Leader, but also the main driving force for the business.

Businesses have a chance to excel when:
  1. the Leader has ‘admirable’ Values
  2. the Leader is able to clearly state those Values
  3. the leadership team discusses, understands and embraces the Leader’s Values
  4. the personal Values of the members of the leadership team mesh with and complement the Leader’s Values…this combination of personal Values becomes the basis of the business Culture…Culture Statements are communicated repeatedly, set in writing, and posted for all to see
  5. the leadership team works to ensure all employees at the business discuss, understand, and embrace the business Culture
All of this is captured in our V-C-C-V Philosophy [see links below]

Values → Culture → Communication → Value

That is, Values fuel the delivery of Value…and delivery of Value fuels business success and profitability.
