Thought Tweet #841

Thought Tweet #841 Major achievements flow in the wake of small wins.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Sometimes we find ourselves marveling in the overnight success enjoyed by people and businesses. Sometimes we feel a little twinge of jealousy, wondering why this doesn't happen to us. Sometimes we waste our breath talking about the fortuitousness of this or that person or endeavour.

When we find ourselves tempted to think or talk along those lines we should pinch ourselves. As we wince under our own pinch we should remember major achievements flow in the wake of a series of small wins. Remember, the Beatles paid their dues, for years, in small clubs in Hamburg, Germany before they splashed onto the worldwide music scene. And, hobbyists played with backyard rockets long before NASA put men in lunar modules on the surface of the moon. And Beethoven learned his craft from taskmasters.

Thought Tweet #840.5

Thought Tweet #840.5 "I'm too busy". That's a real good way not to be thinking.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

I favour abundance thinking over scarcity mindsets.

If I think "I'm too busy" then I have a scarcity mindset with respect to time, the most-precious commodity...or darned close to it.

So - I must not think "I'm too busy."

And - I must leave "I'm too busy" to the people who embrace those scarcity mindsets.

Thought Tweet #840 You can lead a horse to water & through hell and high water. But, it's not a good idea to make him drink from a fire-hose.

The Thinking Behind The tweet

Clint Eastwood accurately stated, "A man's got to know his limitations." And, as you know, Clint Eastwood treated horses and mules even better than he treated most men...he understood both. It's fair to say he was rather rough on men. Now, I suppose all of that could have been made up because of those movies he had a habit of playing in. Regardless, he never made a horse or a man drink from a fire-hose: [even if it's just metaphoric] that's going too far.

Thought Tweet #839

Thought Tweet #839 When people tell you they are giving 110%, do you think they are talking in superduperlatives?

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

When I was a child neighbourhood parents had a habit of stopping me and asking me to answer math questions. [At one point I thought none of the adults in our subdivision knew how to count their money.] I suppose I was naturally talented at math. Later in life I found myself answering math questions during university level exams...dozens of exams. So, I understand I developed a habit of knowing math.

That knowledge of math has a few side-effects. One side-effect is, when people make claims like they are doing things beyond 100% it catches my attention and my thoughts. I have thoughts like, "Don't these people know when you've got 100% you've got it all & when you've given 100% you've given it all?

Giving 100% is superlative territory....that's the limit of your giving.

Giving more than 100% - well, that's defying the laws of at least mathematics...probably, the laws of physics...and even the Laws of Nature.

How can you trust a person who makes claims like, "Boss - I'm giving 110%!"? [Some go even higher. You hear 150% regularly and some people have the habit of claiming a preposterous 1000%!

Don't you think all of these people going overboard?...being excessive?...being exorbitant?...over-killing their point and beating it to death too?

Thought Tweet #838.5 Over time, entrepreneurship beats the ego down to a manageable size.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

To succeed for any extended period, an entrepreneur must have a balanced ego. When an entrepreneur's ego gets out of control, sooner or later, problems begin to arrive in waves. Like water on rough stones, repeated waves of problems take the cutting edge off of an entrepreneur's ego...offering the entrepreneur the opportunity to become a business leader.
