Personal Values and Strengths are wonderful ingredients…when they are put to good use.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

People can lead extremely happy and fulfilled lives when those two personal things are aligned and put to good use. That use does not have to be leadership. Leadership introduces another layer of complexity. To illustrate this, we added a wrapping called Vision – the Leader’s Vivid Vision. If you want to lead then you owe it to your followers to provide the Leader’s Vision. And – that Vivid Vision has to include the delivery of value to real clients. That way, the followers have at least a fighting chance to succeed. You expand that chance for success by making your Vision vivid. And, communicating it with sticky stories….real stories…personal stories. You are able to do that when you know how to apply your Personal Values and your Strengths and you can envision the end point and the generation of value…ie, the business value that must be exchanged if you are to get to that desired end point.

Meshed closely with the Leader’s Personal Values, we find the Leader’s Strengths.

Strengths show themselves when the Leader performs in an excellent way at certain tasks…and the Leader feels good and glows while doing those tasks. Strengths are a very personal thing and they can only be judged by their owner and by very-skilled observers. The more the specific details of the Leader’s role are aligned with the Leader’s Strengths – the better.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

You can take talent to task.

and

You can bring tasks to talent.

Or...you can ignore talents & tasks at your peril.

It's all a matter of choice.

We didn't see the financial meltdown coming. We didn't see the economic recession coming. We do see some things now...

Having been through those challenges, and rethinking business, I have a better picture of what we need to do to protect our businesses. I know business leaders need to inject Maker-thinking into their business. And, they need to do more good-old-fashioned testing of ideas...that's the entrepreneur-proven route to innovation.

Canadian leaders need to stop avoiding people problems and come up with better ways to remedy them.

Canadian leaders need to start matching talents with tasks.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Be clear about your Interests...people need to know what you want...stories help them understand and remember.

State your Vision...people need to know what you see in your imagination..stories help them understand and remember.

Admirable Interests and Vivid Visions are magnetic...they attract Talented people...and Talented people express their Talents...then success follows.

Good Leaders focus their attention and concentrate on the places where Talents meet Tasks.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Good leaders recognize you cannot force round individuals into square roles and you cannot force square individuals into round roles.

Good leaders know you must take Talent to Task. More specifically, good leaders recognize you cannot force round Talents into square Tasks and you cannot force square Talents into round Tasks.

To Take Talent To Task you must know the details of both the individual's talent and the task and you must know how they fit one another...the better the fit, the better the work, the more the value, the more the profit.
