This is guaranteed to get your ATTENTION!

by Rick Baker
On Jan 6, 2012

You know what gets your attention?

  1. Pleasing and beautiful things,
  2. Surprising things, and
  3. Things that are out of place
Those 3 things get your attention.

But, those 3 things sure have a tough time getting your attention!

You know why those 3 things have such a tough time getting your attention?
  1. Your FOCUS1 and
  2. Their COMPETITION2

ATTENTION, actually the lack of success in capturing it, has led to some rather bizarre business activity...marketing activity, social media activity, etc.

Footnote:
  1. I am not picking on YOU here. When I say 'you' I mean almost all of us. The fact is, people have plenty of thoughts going on in their brains, all day, every day...some experts say as many as 50,000 thoughts/day. It is tough to FOCUS with all those thoughts keeping us so occupied.
  2. When you look out at the world you observe lots of stuff...their COMPETITION outnumbers THEM by orders of magnitude.

“My own invention, or imagination, such as it is, I can most truthfully assure you , would never have served me as it has, but for the habit of commonplace, humble, patient, daily, toiling, drudging attention.”

Charles Dickens

“One of the greatest benefits of a powerful faculty of attention is that it gives us the ability to successfully cultivate other positive qualities. With the powerful tool of focused attention, we can uproot formerly intractable bad habits, such as addictive behaviours or harmful thoughts and emotions.”

B. Alan Wallace
‘The Attention Revolution’, (2006)
