Thought Tweet #602

by Rick Baker
On Nov 6, 2012

Thought Tweet #602 If we had not learned the word "No" when we were young, we would spend a lot less time thinking about our mistakes.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

When we were young a lot of people started to say "No" to us. We were made to believe it was wrong to say and do certain things....many things. The rules of "No" versus "Yes" were inconsistent, depending on who was saying them and where all of us were when they were being said. Regardless, when we were instructed "No" we received the message we were doing something wrong...i.e., making a mistake. We heard "No" so many times when we were young we still think about our mistakes, sometimes even the mistakes we made when we were young.

We should shake that off.

Thought Tweet #601 Solving Problems: that's the beauty and the beast of business.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Remember...

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

and

"A beast does not know that he is a beast, and the nearer a man gets to being a beast, the less he knows it."

George MacDonald, Scottish author, (1824-1905)

Thought Tweet #600

Thought Tweet #600 Understanding Fire: That's one of Man's greatest achievements. That applies both externally and internally.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Where would we be without an understanding of how to use fire?

Wouldn't we be cold and uncomfortable?

Wouldn't we be uninspired?

Wouldn't we be in the dark...at least, half the time?

Building Strengths Into Business

by Rick Baker
On Nov 2, 2012

People feel good when putting their strengths to work.

People do not feel good when working outside of their strength zones.

People feel particularly bad when they are putting their weaknesses to work.

When people feel bad they do poor work and get poor results.

***

If people are not meeting their business goals then work to understand their feelings. If people are not meeting their business goals and they are feeling good then there’s a high probability your plans must be improved.

If people do not feel good at work then there’s a high probability their roles do not align with their personal strengths. If this is the case then the best strategy is altering their roles to align work actions with their personal strengths.

***

Helping people understand then use their strengths at work is the quickest, least-expensive, and most-productive thing you can do to improve your business.

As you gain a clear understanding of each person’s strengths:

·        Engage strengths at work, wherever possible,

·        Avoid using weaknesses at work,

·        Cover weaknesses with strengths,

·        Build strengths-based strategic plans, &

·        Enable your people to take strengths-based action.

New Things Energize

by Rick Baker
On Nov 1, 2012

If we want to grow, we need to add energy.

There's an energy in New Things.

It is clear - if we want to grow, we need to do New Things.

***

People need and seek novelty, challenge, & [curious as it may seem] struggle.

When people do not perceive novelty, challenge, or struggle they pine and become lacklustre.

Innately, people know it is essential to add to energize

***

Small, wisely chosen New Things deliver enormous energizing value. New Things cure boredom; New Things expand and focus pupils; New Things stretch the mind and the body.

Simply put - New Things enliven.

Thought Tweet #599

by Rick Baker
On Nov 1, 2012

Thought Tweet #599 I used to give people pieces of my mind. Now, I know I cannot afford such giveaways.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Even if I could afford to waste my brain, it's much more fulfilling to cut people up to size.
