Once upon a time there were no walls. People must have beat their heads against something else.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

When you are beating your head against a wall the first thing to do is recognize, your head doesn't fare well when you pit it against a wall.

Heads don't fare well when you beat it against walls.

If you saw others beating their heads against walls, would you join them?

Walls versus Heads...the smart money is on Walls.

...all of this in support of changing for the better.

Think in new ways; think in good old ways...just don't waste time dabbling in-between.

Wisdom survives the test of timeCuriosity & Creativity are essential things.

It's the stuff in-between that wastes time, injures attitude, and accomplishes little.

Without stress there can be no Self-confidence.

by Rick Baker

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Self-confidence is built, over time, as stressful thoughts and situations are faced and dealt with.

'Stressors' bring learning experiences that test self-confidence. The capacity to handle situations expands with experience. As increasingly-stressful learning experiences are handled, self-confidence grows.

Without successful handling of stressors self-confidence has no chance to grow.

[Avoidance may provide relief  but it works against self-confidence.]

[Unsuccessful efforts at handling stressors may injure self-confidence...but, only if you let it...failures provide the opportunity to figure out 'better ways'...sooner or later 'better ways' lead to successful outcomes and then self-confidence grows.]

When you are beating your head against an unbudging brick wall, don't make your next decision another bad one.

Common sense sends strong suggestions to direct our thoughts. We just need to allow them to sink in and register.

Why can't the glass be both half-full and half-empty?

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Is your glass at least half-full and half-empty?

Rather than limit people to 2 ways of thinking and claiming one is optimistic and the other pessimistic, we ought to encourage people to view Situations and People's actions from multiple perspectives...by, for example, encouraging people to use tools like Edward de Bono's 'Six Thinking Hats'.

In some Situations, it is appropriate to consider what has been added while in others it is appropriate to consider what has been subtracted. Sometimes we need to consider possibilities. Other times we need to identify the need for urgent action.

This goes beyond optimism, pessimism, and realism. While that 'mindset' differentiation may be important, with people or with situations, it also may not be important.

Situations & People deserve a lot more thinking than optimism/pessimism tests.

PS: That glass-half-full-glass-half-empty saying has always annoyed me. It is too cliché and it puts people into a 2-dimensional box when all of us know we live in at least a 3-dimensional world.

A person who chases two rabbits is 'too busy' to catch either.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Playing with the ancient wisdom of Confucius...“He who chases two rabbits, captures neither.”

You don't have to chase two rabbits to be too busy. There's plenty of other ways to multi-task your way into feeling then complaining about being too busy.
