A Baker's Thought: It's easy to eat a cake, it's harder to make one, and it's even harder to create a cake recipe.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

If you don't see any cakes, check first to see if your people have cake recipes.

Another Baker's Thought: Most of the time when people don't do what you expect it is because they do not know how!

[Don't Tell them To - Show them How]

Now see, I do listen.

Not as often as I should.

Not as well as I should.

 It's a process...

Why are some people so inclined to be morale busters at work? And - How might we help them get over it?

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

I want to create a Top 10 list of ways to help morale-busting people get over whatever it is that causes them to want to spread negativity at work. I am not talking about people who express concerns openly, in front of those who they blame for this or that. I am talking about people who do their complaining behind the backs of the people about whom they complain.

I'd like to create a list of the Top 10 Remedies for Behind-the-Back Complaints.

Any help you can provide will be appreciated...

Here's one -

  1. Ask people to accept an environment where others can, without risk, openly express concerns about one another directly to one another. And, if that doesn't work the concern  be escalated to the boss or the 'team'.must

Thick-skinned people can handle both sides of that approach.

Do you agree?

Influence/lead/manage yourself if you wish to influence/lead/manage others.

The Thinking Behind the Sales Tweet

Do what I say not what I do just doesn't cut it. Probably, most of us can remember incidents when we were children and adults in positions of authority gave us instructions that they themselves did not follow. To the extent that happened, we learned to resist instructions that came to us as do what I say not what I do. As we gained experience and confidence our resistance to these inconsistent demands increased. Now, we have much trouble following instructions from people who do not lead by example. And, we distrust those who talk the talk but don’t walk the walk.

Or, we could just leave things to chance and self-confidence...however, at the very least, that would deprive us of the pleasure associated with the cause and effect between our thoughts (causes) and our achievements (effects).

Criticism is a contagious thing...it's the polar opposite of 'Pay It Forward'.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

When we criticize others they tend to carry on the tradition by criticizing the people the encounter...they criticize the person in front of them in the Tim Horton's drive-thru or their children who are not taking homework quite seriously enough, etc., etc., ad nauseam.

All of us seem to be hard-wired to be critical of others...at least, the vast majority of us seem to possess and illustrate this human condition. Despite that fact, very few of us find value in receiving criticism. Very few of us indeed...

Regardless of how we deliver and receive criticism from others, most people - when you cut through their external facade: whether arrogant, or brave, or puzzled, or aggrieved most people - are quite critical of themselves. We should neither forget nor underestimate this aversion to criticism. Even people who are very tough on themselves don't like it when others treat them that way.

Criticism: Constructive Criticism is an Oxymoron | Thought Tweets

If you are not ready to change then don't waste energy complaining.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

If you are ready to change then perhaps complaining does some good: it could help you clarify the nature of the change you need to make; it could generate some constructive feedback to help you plan your change...etc.
