Good leaders don't drive people; good leaders fuel the drive in people.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Performance is about desire and drive.

Enthusiasm takes energy.

Leaders are uniquely positioned to fuel the drive in people.

Leaders have the power to re-spark fires.

If today you can't find time to do things right then tomorrow you will find time to do them again.

Have you ever noticed - the people who complain the loudest about having no time tend to spend far more time than others spend fixing errors and redoing work?

About Influencing Powerful People - #2

by Rick Baker
On May 20, 2020

Here's a quote from Dirk Schlimm, clarifying his perspective on 'Powerful People' -

“Depending on where you are, the managing director of your local subsidiary, the head of your finance department, the influential member of your board, the critical donor in your charity, or the owner of your small business may be just as powerful in your setting as a corporate tycoon in someone else’s.”

One implication for family businesses -

The leader of your family business may be just as powerful in your setting as a corporate tycoon in someone else’s.

Don’t blame ‘lack of time’ when the real culprit is personal disorganization and self-imposed mayhem.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

If you free up a few moments, step back, ask yourself "How much time do I have?", and spend some quality time thinking before answering you just might find:

  1. You have only the present time, just like everyone else on the planet.
  2. Just like every other person on the planet, you really have no clue about how much time you have beyond the present moment.
If you think you don't have time you are right....at least from 2 perspectives:
  1. Like Henry Ford, paraphrased, "If you think you do or don't have time you're right."
  2. As any good philosopher or physicist will tell you - Time is an abstract concept...offering nothing tangible for you to possess

Communication band-aids don't solve the discomfort of negative thinking.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Shape up, Man, you gotta improve your attitude!

Great advice in theory - useless advice in reality.

If you want to help people with negative thinking, think first about your own attitude, thoughts and action then learn how to improve by replacing negative thinking with new thoughts.

Only tiny creatures perceive molehills as mountains.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Moles are small creatures and they make small hills.

If you perceive a molehill to be a mountain then you must be much smaller than a mole...you must be a tiny creature indeed.
