When we look outward and feel things are beyond our control it is most difficult to look inward and muster self-control.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Some situations seem to be beyond our control. In fact, some situations are beyond our control. Other situations just appear to be beyond our control. Regardless, really beyond our control or appearing beyond our control - these are the situations that put our self-control to the toughest test. When our locus of control is tested, so is our self-control. We do better when we anticipate these situations and prepare, in our minds, for them.

Communication is like a paper-towel paradox: the thicker the explanation the less absorbent the message.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

If it don't make sense and the explanations that follow make even less sense...methinks the person doth protest too much.

When you mess up a communication - stop, think, accept the burden of error, and speak concisely, with clarity.

Ancient communication wisdom: Catcheth thou and stoppeth thou before thou doth protest too much.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

There's a good reason why Shakespeare put that "doth protest too much" line in Hamlet. Many people are unable to express an objection and leave it at that. Rather, many people express an objection and go on and on...providing either gory details or more examples, or both.

Now I must stop here before I too doth protest too much...

...it would, for example, be wrong to deliver a ripe example of this I witnessed as recently as...

In small doses anxiety energizes and hones focus. In large doses anxiety becomes a demon that destroys quality of life.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Anxiety is part of our lives.

Anxiety is laced with rumination about past mistakes and problems or worry about future mistakes and problems.

In small doses anxiety helps us overcome difficulties, which leads to the building of confidence

In large doses anxiety can overwhelm us, leading to avoidance lack of confidence and even depression.

One key to success: when anxiety is triggered begin by taking on little challenges. that will help you gain the confidence you will require when you face larger challenges.

A thin skull allows important stuff to get in easier.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Mistakes bang into and bounce off thick skulls.

This annoys Mistakes because their role is teaching lessons.

The problem is: When thick skulls won't let them in Mistakes cannot teach lessons to thick-skulled brains.

So Mistakes keep coming back, knocking on thick skulls over and over and over again.

While Mistakes are born to be great teachers, over time they tend to develop an uppity attitude and a nasty sense of humour. Even when they've given up on teaching well-concealed brains Mistakes have no desire to stop knocking on the thick skulls that house those brains.

The key foresight point is: We can count on Mistakes to come back over and over again to knock on our skulls if we keep them thick.

The bottom line is: As long as our skulls remain thick we will never have the opportunity to learn the lessons taught by Mistakes.

Recipe for Complication: mix up some simple things, set basic courtesy on the back burner, & watch people get heated up.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

When we do simple things right we pave smoother paths. When we are courteous or at least civil with others we pave smoother paths. When we do not do these things we should expect a rough road ahead.
