Sales Tweet #284 Sales by Wandering Around…that's one of the ways Ernest Seller prospects
The Thinking Behind the Sales Tweet
Some time ago, Management by Wandering Around (or of some similar name) was in vogue. Managers were encouraged to wander around, be accessible, etc. Ernest's approach to prospecting appears to be similar to that. He loves prospecting. While he doesn't go for all that scripted phone or e-mail schmooze...he does have some remarkable success at prospecting. And, his prospecting can be described as 'wandering around'. Wherever he is, whether walking or driving, he is always looking around...he's a curious guy. If he sees something that catches his commission-focused eyes he either drops in to introduce himself and check it out. Or he writes a little note on his notepad for future follow up. He's been known to wander in with a big smile and strut out with a bigger smile. (Sometimes he has his faithful dog "Commission" with him. But, that's another story.)

Business is about people, process, and situations. People create the process and people create most of the situations.
So, when you boil it down business is about people.
We all know that.
And, we all forget it…at least from time to time each of us forgets it.
When it comes to people, each of us has some home-made putty to deal with: we can start with self. How can we expect to have any success leading other people if we cannot develop skill at leading self?
Napoleon Bonaparte had it right when he said, “If you do not conquer self, you will be conquered by self”. When we understand self we have a chance to guide self to better places. When we understand self we have a chance to increase our good habits and reduce our bad habits. When we understand self we have confidence and we are better-able to tackle new things.
This is what Napoleon taught when he said, “conquer self”.
Conquering self…
Only after we have worked at that and had some success at that can we have the chance to guide other people to better places.
This business of understanding and conquering self cannot be left to chance or to best intentions. It requires forethought and focussed action.
That’s the business Leader's responsibility!
That’s the essence of leadership!

Sales Tweet #283 Develop ‘pet names’ and ‘pet sayings’ to remind your Sales people… “Size Does Matter”.
The Thinking Behind the Sales Tweet
Sometimes Sales people focus on wee pieces of low-hanging fruit. That can happen when it is easy to sign up wee pieces...so they do it…even if your business cannot afford to serve those wee clients. Maybe you need some strategies and sayings to address this problem? For example: “Well that's a really good start: you’ve picked up a nice little blip on the radar screen…”
