Communication suggestions for Leaders: How to make sure your confidence does not threaten your followers.

Some followers are intimidated by Leader's self-confidence. Here are some Spirited suggestions, to make sure you do not come across that way: 

  • Be authentic…it is OK to be on the reserved side of centre if that is your character…it is OK to be on the boisterous side if that is your character
  • Be committed to working on self-improvement…i.e., raising his or her own self-confidence when that is required, as it will be from time to time
  • Focus on strengths: personal strengths and the strengths possessed by others
  • As Dale Carnegie taught, Praise heartily
  • Make full and appropriate use of humour…some leaders have just a little of it and will need to remind themselves of the importance of putting it to good use…other leaders have heavy doses of it and they will need to remind themselves to never let it go too far…self-humour is best…humour at the expense of others is an absolute no-no
  • Listen…resurrect that art if it has become lost
  • Master your emotions…and keep them under control [most of the time]

Disputes in the work environment often escalate. And, they often spread and affect many people. When you face situations of conflict and dispute remember - It isn't about who's right or who's wrong. It's about who doesn't have emotions under control - and Why?

And, of course, make sure you aren't among those who do not have their emotions under control. 

Emotional disputes do a lot of damage and waste a lot of energy [energy - which, if it wasn't being wasted, could be put to constructive use].

Crystallize your thoughts & desires...clearly communicate details of Goals, Tasks & Actions. Then Do & Measure the Actions.

And Practice: if Practice doesn't make perfect then what does?

Practice clarifying your desires.

Practice clarifying your Goals.

Practice communicating about your desires and Goals.

Practice defining the details of Tasks, with emphasis on the Tasks that yield the results you desire.

Practice taking Talent to the Tasks - i.e., Practice the best, most-focused-for-success Actions.

Practice communicating about Talents & Strengths and about Tasks and Actions.

Practice Measuring Actions.

Practice Measuring results.

These are the ways to better- and best-in-class performance.

These are the ways to Skills.

These are the ways to business success.

When it comes to communication, vagaries ain't gonna get it done.

We cannot assume the purpose of our thinking is obvious. We cannot assume the purpose of their thinking is obvious. And, we are far better off over-communicating about the purpose behind out thoughts, ideas, and requests than under-communicating about them.

Rather than loudly blaring and flashing your products and services, try simply explaining why you are building them.
