If, as Aristotle said, we are what we repeatedly do then by doing a few new things we can change who we are.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

The power of, problem with, and opportunity embedded in habits.

Help people do new things...little-but-new things...that is, if you want to help them make changes for the better.

Good Habits contribute to our betterment and take us toward our Goals.

Personal Organization - today, every 30 minutes, stop what you are doing to check and take note of your mood.

The Thinking Behind the Tweet

Most people spend time thinking about “To Do” lists and personal organization. They do things to ensure they are organized: take courses, keep a calendar, use CRM systems, etc. However, most people do not keep tabs on their moods, emotions, & feelings. Since moods have a strong impact on our behaviour and performance, it makes sense to do a mood-self-check. Doing it every 30 minutes for one day is a way to begin to create this Good Habit

Simplify the way you view people... People Only Do 3 Things - Good Habits, Bad Habits & New Things.

The Thinking Behind the Tweet

Everything people do can be classed as a Good Habit, a Bad Habit, or a New Thing. Mostly, people do Good Habits and do Bad Habits. From time to time they do New Things. Doing New Things is a major key to making changes…and developing Good Habits. Doing New Things is the major key to success.

Getting Bang for the Buck out of Procedures

by Rick Baker
On May 15, 2014

Business Contains Only 3 Things: People, Processes, & Situations

Processes come in two classes: processes done by people [thinking, acting, and communicating] & processes done by machines [created by people].

Some Processes are called 'Procedures'. Procedures are communicated in different ways: word of mouth, written documents, how-to videos, computer coding, etc.

Procedures are created in an effort to cause People and machines to perform Processes in 'proper ways', i.e., ways that are considered good ways...essentially Good Habits...ways that allow People to achieve desired results...ways that allow People to achieve Goals.

While procedures do help People achieve goals, procedures do not inspire people. Only People inspire People: People are self-inspired and People are inspired by others.

When People are inspired procedures can influence their actions.

So, the sequence for getting the most bang for the buck out of procedures is: Inspire People first, then Influence Actions and Build Business.

When you are afraid of losing your job

Fearing job loss:

Many people go to work, every day, fearing they will lose their jobs. Sometimes the fear is so strong it affects their behaviour and it becomes a 'self-fulfilling prophecy'...the thing they fear visits them...they lose their jobs.

I have seen this happen many times over my career.

I have noticed an interesting nuance. Sometimes the person who fears the job loss so much and then loses the job actually benefits from the albeit-unpleasant-at-the-time experience. Sometimes, after all the dust cleared, the person realized he or she really didn't fit the job and that 'disconnect' expressed itself as fear. Sometimes, after all the dust cleared, the person realized they didn't fit the organization - they didn't mesh well with the other people. Other times the person realized he or she needed to make some personal changes in order to be comfortable at work.

Clearly, there is a better way. People can seek self-discovery and work at self-improvement. People can reduce their fears. People can become fully confident in the value they deliver in their role.

People can employ their talents & strengths.

People can replace their bad habits with good habits.

People can reduce and remove their fears.

People own these choices.
