You think about how you act at work. Do you think about how you think at work?

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

While at work...

  • you think
  • you act

While at work...

  • you act without thinking...i.e., your habits kick in and you act in rote ways, with very little or no thought
  • you think then act...relying on your judgment to lead you to better action [i.e., action that takes you toward your desired goals]

While at work...

  • do you think about how you think?

Educate your brain: don't just stuff it full of facts and demand it work harder - mould it so it does a good job of thinking.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

If you are thrilled with the way your mind and brain are serving you...terrific!

If you are not thrilled - take your mind to a better place...as one example, train your mind how to think more positively...another example, train your mind how to govern self-control.

Multi-task for mediocrity - or - Focus for excellence. That's the choice.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Can this common sense [backed by brain science] withstand the urgencies of your day?

Focus & concentration bring excellence.

When we have mastered performance excellence we can get in the zone.

Either way, focus/concentrate or in the zone, we are not multi-tasking when we are performing with excellence.

If you think you are too busy then you are thinking wrong.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

I favour abundance thinking over scarcity mindsets.

If I decide I think "I'm too busy" then I have selected a scarcity mindset with respect to time, the most-precious commodity...or darned close to it.

So - I must not think "I'm too busy."

And - I must leave "I'm too busy" to the people who choose to embrace those scarcity mindsets.

You don't see yourself the way others see you. Need proof? Look in a mirror. See - you already got it backwards.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

When we invented mirrors we invented a useful tool...mirrors allow us to do wonderful things like checking out our new suit and fixing our make-up before we leave the house in the morning. When you take a bit of time to think about it...isn't it a little annoying that when we think we get those things right we actually get them 100% backwards. The other 7,000,000,000 people out there see us and everything about us the exact opposite way.

If you want to change the world then spend 20 minutes a day working on self-understanding.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

The question was asked at the HBR LInkedIn group..."How can we change society? Just give one step which you feel will change society.

Change requires Courage.

Change requires knowledge of self and knowledge of others.

Change cascades like dominos:

Courage

Self-Knowledge

Self-Education

Self-Discipline

Self-Change

Self-Confidence

Confidence in Others

Teaching Others: Courage, Self-Knowledge, Self-Education, Self-Discipline, Self-Confidence

Working With Others: Creating Change For The Better

This is the stuff of leadership
