Figuring People Out?

by Rick Baker
On Dec 13, 2012

People have been trying to figure out other people for a long, long time.

People-patterns have existed for millennia.

For example, consider archetypes.

An archetype is a broadly accepted description of a pattern of human behaviour.

Below are examples of archetypes obtained through a simple internet search.

Interesting to note the similarities and also the grouping nuances & differences.

The question:  Do archetypes and related pattern-tools such as personas actually help marketing efforts?

Thought Tweet #628

by Rick Baker
On Dec 12, 2012

Thought Tweet #628 Problems wave eagerly at me...huge flags of action & opportunity.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Some leaders take every day and situation as it comes...with a strong belief they can handle things as those things arise.

Some leaders are risk identifiers & risk managers. Problems jump out at them, waving huge flags. Sometimes the flags are red; sometimes the flags are green; always, the flags demand attention and thought.

To some degree, the differences in leaders are innate, 'natural-born' differences. To some degree, the differences are planned, developed skills & strengths.

Link to some thoughts on optimism vs pessimism.

Thought Tweet #627 The Boss is trying to figure out the best ways to kill ideas. About Ernest Seller and The Boss.

The Thinking Behind the Tweet

So far, The Boss has come up with 3 ways to kill ideas:
  1. The angry ‘NO’…that always works, however, he doesn’t want to overuse it;
  2. Death by Delay…he can send the work to a committee where the Chair is from some other department in the company…it doesn't matter who is Chair of the committee is as long as the Chair isn’t one of his people, and
  3. Belittling the person who has the idea: that works real well with Don Trodden, but isn’t so effective with Ernest Seller.

Do you have MORE IDEAS about how to KILL IDEAS?

If you have any the please email us so we can relay them to The Boss.

What's New?

by Rick Baker
On Dec 11, 2012

"Of all the things you seek to control in life, it turns out that one of the most important ones is the introduction of new."

"Bottom line: setting your sights on enjoying new experiences regularly is one of the greatest ways to remain fully engaged, energized, and enthusiastic throughout your lifetime."

Brendon Burchard, 'The Charge', (2012)

When you really stop to think about it, people only do 3 things. People do good habits, bad habits, and new things.

How do new things help you remain fully engaged, energized, and enthusiastic?

You can do New Things to displace Bad Habits. Bad Habits, by definition, feel bad. They feel bad because they are not aligned with your goals. They distract you from your goals and that reduces the likelihood of you achieving your goals. New Things provide information. You can test New Things to determine if they are taking you closer to your goals. Some New Things will take you closer to your goals. If you repeat them then they become Good Habits, which by definition feel good.

When you feel good you are engaged in thoughts and action...you are energized. When you feel really good you are enthusiastic.

New Things provide the bridges and paths from Bad Habits to Good Habits.

New Things provide the way to make adjustments so you achieve your goals.

New Things are the key to interesting and positive work experiences.

Thought Tweet #626

Thought Tweet #626 Power of Will & Spontaneous Creativity...aren't they the wonderful, bi-polar highlights of our human condition!

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Power of Will - a much-praised attribute and process of character (willpower).

Creativity & Spontaneity - humour, music, art, & invention - these add magic to our lives.

"Do you appreciate both?"

"Do you balance both?"

Thought Tweet #625

by Rick Baker
On Dec 7, 2012

Thought Tweet #625 Know what you know, see what you don't know: then, learn about making your business grow.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

There's an old saying, "What you don't know cannot hurt you."

...not a good idea to apply that to business

In business, 2 functions reign over all others. They are: Strategic Planning and Risk Management.

At the heart of Risk Management:

  • discovering how to uncover & see what you don't know - being present & checking reality
  • anticipating situations that contain risk and considering & planning for them before they happen
