Thought Tweet #786.5 When you solve a problem at your workplace check to see if the solution could help your clients' businesses.

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

...and your suppliers' businesses...and your allies' businesses.

Spread good solutions. Spread better and best practices.

Challenge your leadership team to understand what it means to be best-in-class or better.

Be bold. Be confident your thinking is creating top-quality solutions. Share your solutions and be open to feedback that helps you improve on your solutions. Share your solutions with business peers...exchange ideas and improvements.

Thought Tweet #766 Sales people should select heroes, learn from them, and emulate their strengths.

         ...

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

I see different ways of approaching Sales. I think Sales people can and should learn from ‘heroes’...as many as possible. And, if we are in doubt – Is this person a hero worth studying? – then we should give the person the benefit of the doubt, read about the person, and draw our own conclusions.

Thought Tweet #761 How To Create A Real Scary Sales Monster...a recipe

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

Really, I am not 100% sure how I did it.

I just know I did it.

Actually, I did it more than once in my career.

I somehow created some high-octane sales beasties that were real scary.

While I don't have the exact recipe I do know the key ingredients and the key process steps:

  1. Take 2 big egos - make sure one is your own and the other junior [junior, in the hierarchical sense or you will not be able to claim credit for the creation of the Sales Monster]
  2. Apply some loud volume.
  3. Blend the big egos together harshly with some lofty goals.
  4. Send the junior ego out to the field under very-tight time deadlines.
  5. Allow a free run for a few days.
  6. Voila - a Sales Monster.
[bon appetit]

So the customer wants a carrot, does he!

by Rick Baker
On Jun 7, 2013

[an excerpt from the unpublished 'The Dark Side of Sales']

You: the Sales Boss

The Mob: your wide-eyed Sales guy

The Situation: The wide-eyed Sales guy writes to you, “He told me that he wants us to dangle a carrot in front of him, so that he can see how we will return his investment.  He is much more interested in dollars saved than peace of mind. Is there anything I can give him to get him over the hump?

Preamble: I know exactly what you are thinking. It is the first thing that hit me too. “What! Are we grocers?” ... "No, of course we are not grocers".

Then, I’m thinking,

"We have no produce and we have no Sales people who can produce."

"Our cupboard is bare."

"And now this customer guy is asking us for carrots."

and so, a sales lesson followed...

Thought Tweet #748 Today is 'National Return An Unsolicited Phone Call Day'... [Give a salesperson or an innovator a break today]

The Thinking Behind The Tweet

People in our community are most-Intelligent. People in our community are most-caring. People in our community are most-giving volunteers.

That's why people in our business community must lead the charge!

Salespeople and innovators deserve a break ...let's give them one today...let's deliver some pleasant surprises in the form of returning an unsolicited phone call and asking them what they are trying to persuade us to do. And, let's not just give this lip service. Let's show some genuine interest...even if we have to fake it until we make it.

If we want Canada to regain its position as a world leader in innovation...we need to start doing some stuff like this.

If we want Canada to dig its way out of the lingering economic recession/doldrums...we need to start doing some stuff like this.
