Sales Tweet #284 Sales by Wandering Around…that's one of the ways Ernest Seller prospects

The Thinking Behind the Sales Tweet
Some time ago, Management by Wandering Around (or of some similar name) was in vogue. Managers were encouraged to wander around, be accessible, etc. Ernest's approach to prospecting appears to be similar to that. He loves prospecting. While he doesn't go for all that scripted phone or e-mail schmooze...he does have some remarkable success at prospecting. And, his prospecting can be described as 'wandering around'. Wherever he is, whether walking or driving, he is always looking around...he's a curious guy. If he sees something that catches his commission-focused eyes he either drops in to introduce himself and check it out. Or he writes a little note on his notepad for future follow up. He's been known to wander in with a big smile and strut out with a bigger smile. (Sometimes he has his faithful dog "Commission" with him. But, that's another story.)

Sales Tweet #282 Client: Can I have this or that or some other thing. Ernest Seller: What do you mean?

The Thinking Behind the Sales Tweet
When Ernest Seller asks "What do you mean?" it can stop Clients dead in their tracks. They have to think about what happens next. Is Ernest not listening? Is Ernest a little short upstairs? Is Ernest trying to play a joke on me? Sometimes the Clients repeat themselves. And Ernest does the same. It slows the Clients down even more. But you want to know a funny thing...every once in a while, as the Clients are trying to explain themselves to Ernest they talk themselves into making a purchase.

Sales Tweet #280 If your girlfriend laughs at your tie, don't take it personally. Find another tie or find another girlfriend.

The Thinking Behind the Sales Tweet
Remember that quote from Marilyn Vos Savant? [see the Thoughts Behind Sales Tweet #279] Anyhow, I wanted to clear any confusion about Ernest: he didn't find another tie, he was perfectly happy with the one he was wearing!

Sales Tweet #279 I bet you've asked yourself...what do Ernest Seller and Katharine Hepburn have in common? ...

The Thinking Behind the Sales Tweet
The answer is hinted at in this quote by the great actress: "If you always do what interests you, at least one person is pleased". Ernest does this without thinking, that’s why he's such a happy guy. While Ernest might not understand them, the following quotes cover a bit of my perception of Ernest… but this is my perception of the fellow… Leo Rosten: If you're doing something wrong, at least enjoy it… Marilyn Vos Savant: If your employer criticizes your report, don't take it personally. Instead, find out what's needed and fix it. If your girlfriend laughs at your tie, don't take it personally. Find another tie or find another girlfriend.

Sales Tweet #277 Again…Ernest Seller left The Boss' office…Ernest had a big smile on his face...

The Thinking Behind the Sales Tweet
The New Guy asked The Boss, "What was that all about?" The Boss, blurted out, "It was about as much as I could take!"

Sales Tweet #276

Sales Tweet #276 Ernest brought his dog ‘Commission’ to the office last week. Ernest said, “Come Commission”. And it did.

The Thinking Behind the Sales Tweet
As Ernest left The Boss quipped to Don Trodden, "If he were any smarter, we could teach him to fetch". Don Trodden corrected The Boss, "Ernest’s dog Commission can fetch...I saw him do it earlier today”. The Boss, muttered under his breath, "I was talking about Ernest".
